OUR HISTORY

 

Bishop Maurice C. Trent Sr., a native of Pittsburgh, PA, and veteran of the Korean War, served two tours in the US Army.  He loved to travel and spoke fondly of his adventures in Korea, Japan, and Germany.  Following his years as a soldier, he met the love of his life, Barbara E. Squires (Lady Bishop). A short time later they were married. Lady Bishop received salvation prior to the marriage but it was another year before Bishop Trent received Jesus Christ as his personal savior.

 

In 1975 he was licensed and ordained to preach the Gospel through the Evangelical Church Alliance. Through a life of faith he saw great miracles of healing, deliverance and divine provision.  In 1970 he received a miraculous healing of a broken back after doctors said he would be an invalid for the rest of his life.  In 1986 he was healed of paralysis after suffering a stroke that doctors feared was terminal.

Bishop Trent’s ministry accomplishments are many. 

 

He started ministries in Youngstown, OH, Atlanta & Brownsville, GA, and Natrona Heights and Pittsburgh, PA. During his time in Georgia, the Governor of the State of Georgia recognized him for his efforts.  He founded Lighthouse Church (now The Lighthouse) in 1990 and with the help of his wife, Lady Bishop and the dedicated saints, built a ministry that has the pulse of the community.  He focused on broken lives that needed love, and on the youth of the community. 

 

During his tenure and pastor and eventually Bishop, he served everyone as if they were greater than him.  Eventually, the city took notice of his accomplishments.  In 1999, Bishop Trent was honored by City Council, as June 22, 2002, was established as Bishop Maurice C. Trent day.  In July 2003, Bishop Trent was recognized as one of the most influential men in Pittsburgh, in the acclaimed Pittsburgh Courier.  Greater than all of the official accolades he received, his greatest satisfaction came from seeing peoples lives changed for the better, and children enjoying life.  He used every opportunity to share how God was changing lives from addiction, to anointing and from pain to power.  He realized that he was simply a tool in the hand of the Master.

 

Bishop Trent’s vision was expanded, to developing a center, an extension into the community with plans of a Daycare Center, Full Time Youth Center, and Training Center for the under privileged. Part of this dream has begun through the non-profit, Lighthouse Memorial Christian Center (LMCC) that houses an After-School and Summer Program, Various Youth Programs, a Food Bank, and the Annual Toys for Tot’s and Easter Egg Hunt.

 

On Dec 4, 2003, Bishop Trent departed this life and he now resides in heaven in a new body awaiting the arrival of all the people he loved.

 

Lady Bishop Barbara Trent continues to further the vision as a member of The Lighthouse and the President of LMCC. LMCC is an extension into the community with plans of a Daycare Center, Full Time Youth Center, and Training Center for the under privileged.
